Ur Kasin

Ur Kasin (b. 1998, Romania) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Bucharest, Romania whose work navigates the tension between the absurd and the banal. At the forefront of contemporary art's digital revolution, Kasin emerges as one of Romania's most compelling young talents. Through abstract, texturally rich compositions, he transforms everyday scenes into meditations on the complexities of contemporary life, infusing them with a tinge of existential questioning.

Kasin describes his work as "puzzles" suspended between thought and action, one which begins with a thought or feeling he refers to as the “seed.” Kasin then harnesses the volume of narratives provided by the familiar digital realm to visualise this “seed” through online sketching and collage creation. After translating his online creations into the analogue world through charcoal drawings, Kasin transfers his shadowy 2-D renderings to plan the colour palette, brushwork, and palette knife textures for his final oil paintings. 

His layered and bustling compositions depict everyday actions that evoke a kind of moodiness conjured by the idiosyncratic and dark realities that underpin our hyper-digital age, creating works that are at once immediate and timeless. 

His body of work includes intimate motifs such as dirt, cells, space, fur and food, and spans digital collage, sculpture, and oil paintings. By merging the ordinary with the spectacular, Kasin offers an unflinching look at the overlooked, common moments of daily life, elevating them to speak of personal, yet shared realities.
