Contemporary Istanbul 2026: Booth B151

JD Malat Gallery is pleased to return to Contemporary Istanbul for its 21st edition, at Booth B151, presenting Confluence, a group exhibition of new works created specifically for the fair by Francesca Leone, Lu Xinjian, Yann Leto, Kojo Marfo, Hande Şekerciler, Luis Olaso, Santiago Parra, Sophie-Yen Bretez, and Andy Moses.

Contrasting Perspectives, Shared Narratives

Bringing together artists from diverse cultural and artistic backgrounds, the presentation unfolds through contrasting approaches to material, memory, identity, gesture, and form. Leone transforms remnants of everyday life into sculptural compositions; Lu Xinjian distils cities into intricate visual codes; Marfo and Leto draw upon cultural imagery and personal narratives; while Şekerciler reconsiders the classical figure through contemporary technology.

From Figuration to Abstraction

Alongside them, expressive painting takes radically different forms; from Olaso’s vivid, instinctive compositions and Parra’s physical monochrome gestures to Moses’ luminous abstractions and Bretez’s introspective, atmospheric works. While the presentation includes several works created specifically for Contemporary Istanbul, it also brings together significant recent works that reflect the artists’ evolving practices.

Embracing Diverse Perspectives

JD Malat Gallery’s presentation at Contemporary Istanbul reflects a programme built on discovery, diversity, and a belief in the continuing possibilities of contemporary art. Rather than following a singular aesthetic, the gallery embraces practices that challenge convention, encourage dialogue, and offer different ways of engaging with the complexities of contemporary life.
