Crucible of Hope by Ghanaian artist Kojo Marfo in Istanbul

İlgili Haberler, DAMGA, February 14, 2024

The exhibition titled Crucible of Hope by the Ghanaian artist Kojo Marfo has met art lovers in Istanbul. Marfo tries to depict the social and geographical texture of Africa through figurative means in his works. Female figures, as a reflection of the matriarchal order that holds a significant place in the geography where he was born and raised, also frequently appear in his works. At times, mothers embracing their children tightly, family members connected to each other with a physical touch, compositions harmonized with a sense of intimacy vividly express feelings of love and dependency. In the paintings adorned with block colors, powerful shapes and figures, flower-covered headdresses depicted in lively colors, and figures wearing layered beaded necklaces, a cheerful and lively atmosphere of celebration prevails.

Throughout his artistic journey, which has taken him from America to London and many other places, elements such as sincerity, love, and universality stand out in Kojo Marfo's works.

The exhibition, consisting of 12 works curated by Zeynep Öztürk, can be visited at DG Art Project until March 11th.
