JD Malat Gallery Dubai is pleased to present Photosynthesis, a new body of work by the Spanish artist Luis Olaso, marking a pivotal moment in his practice. Created entirely in his new studio in Cádiz, southern Spain, this series reflects a geographical and emotional shift where environment, sensation, and inner life converge on the canvas.
Olaso’s paintings grow from a conversation between instinct and reflection, where brushstroke, colour, and form are charged with feeling. Shapes emerge and fade, often suggesting leaves, branches, or natural rhythms without becoming literal, leaving only their essence, movement, and emotional weight. Each canvas functions as a subtle self-portrait, capturing solitude, thought, and internal states through gestural painting rooted in movement, density, and the physical intelligence of paint.
In Photosynthesis, Olaso achieves a delicate balance between freedom and contemplation, inviting a quiet pause where colour, form, and emotion converge.
