Sepand Danesh: ODRADEK

12 June - 14 July 2025
Overview
JD Malat Gallery is pleased to present Odradek, the debut London solo exhibition by French-Iranian artist Sepand Danesh (b. 1984, Tehran). Featuring ten paintings, the exhibition explores identity transformation and the paradoxes of contemporary existence in an increasingly hyper-connected age.

Danesh filters the world through a pixelated lens, constructing spatial environments using square and cubic geometries that reflect our digitised visual landscape. The exhibition title draws from Franz Kafka’s short story The Cares of a Family Man, in which Odradek is an uncanny, inexplicable presence, neither fully object nor person, and yet persistently there. For Danesh, Odradek becomes a metaphor for the unseen psychological residues of trauma and displacement: forces that quietly shape identity, even when logic fails to name them.

Exhibited on the ground floor of the gallery, Odradek invites viewers into spaces both familiar and strange, encouraging the navigation of optical puzzles while confronting questions of belonging and transformation that define contemporary experience.
