Camelia Mohebi
Camelia Mohebi is a multidisciplinary visual artist, designer, entrepreneur and art therapist from the United Arab Emirates. Over nearly three decades of practice, she has cultivated a distinctive visual language grounded in experimentation, fluidity and a belief in the transformative nature of art. Working across painting, illustration, multimedia and sculptural forms, she embraces rich detail and layered materiality as a way to express emotional depth and spiritual growth.
Born in Dubai and raised between the UAE, Iran and Switzerland, Mohebi grew up in an environment that valued theatre, storytelling and creative play. These influences encouraged her early commitment to art and later guided her formal studies at the American International University in London, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Communication with a minor in Illustration and Graphic Design.
Mohebi first gained national recognition in 2009 through her participation in the inaugural Emirati Expressions exhibition in Abu Dhabi. Her illustrative portraiture demonstrated a sensitive engagement with personal identity and positioned her among a new generation of contemporary Emirati artists.
In the past decade, her practice has shifted toward more conceptual and introspective directions. Studies in Neuro Linguistic Programming, Theta Healing and Art Therapy have strengthened the role of healing within her work, leading to multimedia compositions that incorporate sound, symbolism and elements intended to encourage self awareness and reflection in the viewer.
Her work has been exhibited internationally in New York, London, Milan, the Canary Islands and the UAE, including the exhibition Signals at Sotheby’s Dubai in 2022. In 2023 she founded The Sima Collective, which supports emerging artists through residencies and public engagement.
