Yousif Albadi
Yousif Albadi (b. 1989, Sharjah, UAE) is a Sudanese multidisciplinary visual artist, photographer, and curator based in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Trained as a medical doctor, Albadi has cultivated a self-taught artistic practice since 2009, bringing together the disciplines of medicine, photography, and visual storytelling through an approach grounded in empathy, precision, and close observation. He currently serves as MENA Ambassador and Photography Curator for the international photography platform 1x.com, where he curates global selections and mentors emerging photographers across the region.
Albadi's practice explores the relationship between humanity and its surrounding environments, examining the subtle dialogue between nature, architecture, urban space, light, and shadow. His dual background as both physician and artist informs a contemplative visual language that seeks to uncover emotional and psychological narratives embedded within everyday landscapes and built environments. Through carefully composed imagery, he transforms ordinary spaces into poetic reflections on memory, presence, and belonging.
Drawing from extensive experience in photography, filmmaking, and curatorial practice, Albadi creates works that balance technical precision with emotional resonance. His compositions are characterized by a strong sensitivity to atmosphere and form, using light as both a structural and symbolic element to reveal unseen connections between people and place. His recent body of work, Spaces We Do Not Name, developed during the Spectrum Photographers in Residence programme at Manarat Al Saadiyat, continues this investigation by exploring the silent and often overlooked spaces that shape collective experience.
Alongside his artistic practice, Albadi has established himself as an influential figure within the international photography community through his curatorial work, competition judging, and mentorship. His contributions extend beyond image-making into exhibition production and visual discourse, fostering dialogue between emerging and established practitioners across the Middle East and beyond.
Albadi has exhibited widely in the UAE and internationally, including presentations at Manarat Al Saadiyat, the Siena Awards in Italy, Xposure International Photography Festival, Sharjah Art Foundation, and the Ras Al Khaimah Art Festival. His work has been published by National Geographic Magazine and numerous international photography platforms and has received multiple accolades, including awards from the ND Awards, Epson International Pano Awards, Hamdan International Photography Award (HIPA), and the Travel Icons International Photography Competition. Through his multidisciplinary practice, Albadi continues to investigate the intersections of image, space, and human experience, establishing a distinctive voice in contemporary photography and visual culture.
