Ahmed Emad

Ahmed Emad (b. 1993, Dubai, UAE) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice explores the intersections of materiality, identity, and human experience. Holding degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Sharjah and currently pursuing a Master's in Contemporary Museology and Museum Communication at IULM University in Milan, Emad brings a unique interdisciplinary perspective that bridges technical precision with artistic inquiry. He currently works in Cultural Engagement and Art Mediation at Louvre Abu Dhabi and is an artist-in-residence with the UAE Ministry of Culture.

 

Drawing upon his background in engineering, Emad's practice is rooted in an ongoing experimentation with materials and mediums, investigating their physical properties, structural potential, and transformative states. His early engagement with material science inspired an enduring fascination with repurposed industrial materials, leading him to incorporate elements such as steel and concrete into his work, reimagining their inherent rigidity through abstraction, fluidity, and spatial intervention.

 

Central to Emad's artistic practice is a profound interest in people and their stories. This human-centred approach is expressed through figurative portraiture, where layered textures, expressive gestures, and nuanced features convey the emotional and psychological dimensions of his subjects. His distinctive use of mixed media, particularly pigments and charcoal, creates compositions that move beyond representation, transforming each portrait into a narrative of identity, memory, and the complexities of human existence.

 

Emad's works are conceptually driven, examining the relationships between space, material, and audience interaction. Through the dynamic interplay of texture, colour, and gestural mark-making, his compositions invite multiple readings while challenging conventional perceptions of form and medium. His multidisciplinary approach reflects an ongoing dialogue between engineering and art, structure and spontaneity, permanence and transformation.

 

Alongside his studio practice, Emad is an active contributor to the contemporary art community, participating in exhibitions, live artistic performances, and academic discourse, including appearances as a keynote speaker at prominent art seminars. Through his continued exploration of unconventional materials and deeply human narratives, Emad has established a distinctive artistic voice that expands the possibilities of contemporary figurative and mixed-media practice.
