JD Malat Gallery is honoured to present a solo exhibition and new body of work by Colombian artist Santiago Parra for the 18 th edition of Zona Maco Art Fair. The exhibition, entitled 'Temple', will underline Parra's significance as a protagonist in the field of contemporary abstract painting. Informed by a total freedom of movement, 'Temple', presents Parra's most recent exploration of the potential to free painterly practise from the control of the conscious. As Parra states, in allowing the "unconscious to move the brush", the paintings become a reflection of his psychological status. Painting using a single brush stroke, and only stopping when he feels "that the consciousness regains control of the brush's movement", Parra presents us with captured moments of his creative impulse and instantaneity. Parra's work has been exhibited in multiple locations across North and South America, as well as in various locations across Europe. Since 2018 Parra's work has been acquired by the Pérez Art Museum, Miami, and most recently for the Koc family collection, Istanbul, Turkey.
